Well done everyone, we’ve managed to get through the long, dark, dreary January days and into February, which is at least a little bit closer to Spring and brighter times. Just a warning to anyone squeamish – be careful scrolling down! I’m featuring a photoshoot I did for Red Cross First Aid Training, to help illustrate their courses and training. We spent a day in a hired house in Manchester with models and props and trained professionals to produce photography of a hypothermia scenario and paediatric photography for choking and meningitis.
The second part of the photoshoot took place at a farm in Shropshire. This time we were photographing life threatening bleeds and chemical burns! We had the very talented Natasha Blaney, a special effects make up artist to create realistic injuries on our poor models. Personally I am really quite squeamish and had worried about this shoot for weeks in advance. However watching the full series of Grey’s Anatomy must have toughened me up and I coped surprisingly well with all the fake blood and gore.
Back to a nice normal photoshoot now for my lovely client MCS, headshots on a blue background. I always enjoy visiting them in Cheshire, such a friendly and welcoming team.
A different approach to headshots now for Talent international, a recruitment agency that specialise in tech and digital talent. I had a list of people to photograph and about 20 mins per person. I brought people into interesting parts of the office and photographed them looking at the camera and also looking off camera. To make sure I didn’t run out of nice little areas, I photographed two people in each location and it worked well. I like doing this type of photography – it keeps me on my toes! I call these types of images, environmental headshots.
I had a fun, jam packed day working with Teresa and Beth at Holy Cross Catholic High School in Chorley to produce photography for their prospectus. It’s a lovely warm and welcoming high school and the pupils were amazing. We went from volcanos in geography to acrobatics in PE. History went the extra mile with the WW2 props which really brought the subject to life.
I had another visit to Howarths, who look after employment law and HR projects. They are a family run company in Cleckheaton. Howarths is a really lovely company and I always receive a warm welcome which is much appreciated when you are a freelancer. I continued with their headshots on a white background and then a quick family portrait at the end – you might as well! Here are a few of the ways that they use the portraits on their website.

Lastly to end with, Jo from Stop, Pause,Think, Now, Act Agency (Business Consulting and Coaching Agency) invited me along to cover a Pro-Manchester seminar, she was hosting about breaking barriers in Manchester. True reportage photography, where I just creep around in my rubber soled shoes and my invisibility cloak 🙂
Bye for now.

CroBio are a really interesting innovative company that may well make a massive difference to the world. Their goal is to ‘create an environmentally sustainable solution to alleviate global agricultural drought and help reverse the effects of climate change, through durable carbon drawdown’. I met them at CroBio’s lab in Macclesfield...
I spent a day with a lovely family to create images for MCS Certified, my brief was to capture natural images of the family, in their home, living their lives and to have subtle references to ‘energy’. The star of the show - is such a chilled little guy who takes everything in his stride. We all worked around him, giving him space and down time whenever he needed it - he really is an amazing little person.
I spent half a day with Joe and his team at Soteria Fire Protection in Huddersfield to create branding photography for their website and general promotion and marketing. Soteria provides expert fire safety solutions across the north. We started with headshots against a mid grey background, wearing branded t-shirts of all the staff. Then moved onto more editorial style portraits of Joe
I visited a lovely school in my home town of Huddersfield - Moor End Academy. The pupils were really easy to work with and glad to be involved. I worked with Susan, who organised the schedule and helped me on the day. We were looking to get lots of photography of the students working hard, interacting with each other and enjoying the school environment...
