Hello everyone and welcome to my March newsletter.
Just over a year ago I was commissioned to produce photography for Greater Manchester’s NHS CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). The purpose of the photoshoot was a recruitment campaign for mental health practitioners. To photograph current practitioners in their place of work, in a positive light, enjoying their work. To create depth and warmth in the shots, with backgrounds that tell the story. This is part one and I’ll be sharing part two later on. This photoshoot was a tricky one for my client to organise due to the busy and pressured nature of the job and carving out time to be photographed wasn’t easy. There were a few bumps on the photoshoot days but flexibility and willingness from staff to help meant it all turned out well in the end. Each person I met was so lovely, kind and patient. So, here are some of our NHS heros!
Another recruitment campaign but this time for the Nuclear industry. This was my second time photographing nuclear scientists for NNL (National Nuclear Laboratory) via SMRS. Simple, straightforward shots on a plain background they may be, but when combined with a talented graphic designer they can be turned into really strong and interesting banners for a website campaign.
Now from Nuclear chemistry to Brewing chemistry – how’s that for a link! I visited Timothy Taylor’s, a famous West Yorkshire beer that’s been brewed since 1858. Think Publishing sent me on an editorial photoshoot to Keighley to photograph Tim Dewey the Timothy Taylor Chief Executive for Beer Magazine. Tim kindly showed me around and happily posed for me in various parts of the brewery. A lovely man – and he gave me a few bottles of beer for my dad who is a Timothy Taylor’s fan.
The brief for WT Partnerships was exterior headshots of staff looking relaxed and happy with slightly varied backgrounds in Leeds. However, the weather quickly turned against us and it started to rain with no sign of it stopping. The company really wanted the exterior look to tie in with existing shots, so luckily we found a sheltered walkway where I could position us all under cover, but still get a decent background for this commercial photoshoot. It worked well in the end and I don’t think you can tell it’s raining. We just lost out on the variety of the backgrounds.
Lastly a return visit for an education photoshoot in Bolton for Rivington and Blackrod Sixth Form. Lots of students volunteered to help out and be part of the photoshoot. I’m a strong believer that every time you do something that scares you a little, it makes you that bit braver, so I think taking part is a really good experience for young adults as it can help to build confidence.
Bye for now.

Well done everyone, we’ve managed to get through the long, dark, dreary January days and into February, which is at least a little bit closer to Spring and brighter times. Just a warning to anyone squeamish - be careful scrolling down! I’m featuring a photoshoot I did for Red Cross First Aid Training...
CroBio are a really interesting innovative company that may well make a massive difference to the world. Their goal is to ‘create an environmentally sustainable solution to alleviate global agricultural drought and help reverse the effects of climate change, through durable carbon drawdown’. I met them at CroBio’s lab in Macclesfield...
I spent a day with a lovely family to create images for MCS Certified, my brief was to capture natural images of the family, in their home, living their lives and to have subtle references to ‘energy’. The star of the show - is such a chilled little guy who takes everything in his stride. We all worked around him, giving him space and down time whenever he needed it - he really is an amazing little person.
I spent half a day with Joe and his team at Soteria Fire Protection in Huddersfield to create branding photography for their website and general promotion and marketing. Soteria provides expert fire safety solutions across the north. We started with headshots against a mid grey background, wearing branded t-shirts of all the staff. Then moved onto more editorial style portraits of Joe
