Hello everyone and welcome to my May Newsletter. I’m going to start by sharing some more of the promotional photography for Kirklees College, in West Yorkshire, that I was commissioned to undertake last year.
Kirklees College run ‘Project Search’ a programme committed to transform the lives of young people with learning differences. The College finds supported employment opportunities for students in the final year of education, helping them to take those first positive steps into the world of employment. We started the photoshoot in the classroom and then visited several of the students at their place of work. It was a really lovely day and the students were all pleased and keen to be taking part in the photoshoot.
Pen Underwriting asked me to come along to the exhibition stand at the annual BIBA conference at Manchester Central to take reportage style photography. My brief was to capture Pen employees interacting with their visitors, to capture the energy and enthusiasm of the day and to get lots of shots featuring the stand. I’ve done quite a few exhibitions but Pen’s stand really stood out – it’s so colourful and eye-catching which helped to create really impactful photography.
I spent a lovely morning in a beautiful show home in Castleford to create promotional photography for Northern Estate Agents his last May. We illustrated valuations and viewings and the client relationship. The space and decor of the show home made everything easy. Then we moved onto Ryder And Dutton in Oldham to photograph more of the wonderful NEA staff, working and interacting with clients.
You can get a lot done in three hours if you put your mind to it! Jasmine from Tactile Arts, asked me to provide reportage photography of the workshops she runs for children in the Manchester area. They provide art, yoga, dance and drama and I was there to try and capture a flavour of everything. The kids were having a fabulous time so it wasn’t tricky to capture the joy and enthusiasm that both staff and children brought the session. It was an enjoyable whirlwind of a photoshoot.
I had to travel a long way to go to photograph Charlotte Brew for Project Magazines, Rising Star feature, but it was well worth it. Charlotte works as a project manager at Sellafield and was being recognised for her involvement in the ‘first ever active deployment of a quadruped robot in a hazardous radiological environment’. Charlotte was lovely and happily let me walk her around the town of Workington, looking for good background opportunities for the editorial photo shoot. I asked lots of questions about her career and work while we wandered and she is clearly an amazing engineer and project manager.
Box Power asked me to photograph their event to celebrate 10 years in business. Box Power is a UK not-for-profit energy consultancy, where all profits, go back into the community and support good causes. It was a lovely evening, with an amazing fire artist, plus the mayor attended – always the sign of a good ‘do’ in my book!
I was invited to spend the day with Mosaic to create some quirky fun headshots that really show the personality of the people and the company. We used 3 different background colours and played around with different expressions and poses and although the office dog took it rather seriously, he does look very handsome :-).

Bearded Fellows in Manchester, invited me to the office for a day to capture imagery to help illustrate who they are and what they do. Firstly to catch profile portraits of each person in a candid and relaxed style with a positive, creative and engaged feel.
We start with a trip to Edinburgh to photograph students at Preston Lodge High School to capture promotional photography for my client, We Are Futures. NatWest run their varied CareerSense workshops across lots of different educational settings for 13 to 24 year olds.
I love these portraits for SMRS in Manchester! I had fun photographing about 20 employees and they didn’t need much encouragement to be themselves and let their personalities shine! Dan K worked his magic to transform the background into lots of different versions of their brand identity. I was thrilled with the results :-)
