Hello everyone, welcome to my March newsletter which jumps back to July and August of last year. I loved photographing Sylvain Longchambon (Dancing on Ice) at a swanky spa resort for Woman magazine. The shoot started with a portrait (a shirt off preference had been hinted at by those in charge but the request was firmly denied!). I then photographed Sylvain putting writer Chloe through her paces with a series of exercises. Lastly a little video interview for the web site (must nb not to suggest a location under the flight path next time!)
This shoot was a 9am start in Scotland – eek! However we had such a gorgeous relaxed shoot in the garden while the July sun was warming up, my early start was soon forgotten. This was a really touching story for S Magazine, about anorexia and a mother’s plight to help her daughter recover.
It was lovely to meet Clare Nasir and her family for this shoot for S Magazine. We headed off to the local park and attempted to do some ‘relaxed paddling in the stream shots’ but the big muddy dog who was enthusiastically bounding around splashing everyone had us all running around in circles screaming. However he did provide the entertainment and made Clare’s little girl giggle so he was forgiven.
In July I met an amazing lady called Lucie Brownlee for Woman magazine. Lucie’s husband died suddenly aged only 37. A year later she started a blog which has turned into a book ‘Me after You’. It’s clear that her heart breaking, beautiful and witty writing is helping so many people after the death of a loved one and the bleak years that follow.
S Magazine sent me to photograph Stacey Hughes and her two beautiful children for an article about Childhood bereavement. Sadly, Stacey’s first born son Luke died when he was only 5 days old. Stacey has gone on to become a counselor and she has written a book called ‘Dealing With Loss – A Workbook for Kids’, to help children and adults be able to communicate about their feelings on loss.
A shoot for the British Legion magazine with John Banister who was in the Navy during the Korean war, he was awarded the Distinguised Service Medal when his ship was bombed. The Legion provided John with a mobility scooter so that he can get around more easily and this was the focus of the shoot. The article prompted an old ship mate to get in touch and he also received a letter from the grandchildren of his colleague thanking John for saving their grandad.
When I arrived to photograph Becky – A ‘One Direction’ Fan for Closer magazine, I literally could not move in her teenage bedroom for One Direction paraphernalia! This girl seriously loves these guys.. After two hours of tidying, furniture rearranging, & bin bag filling, things finally began to take shape.Becky – I hope you’re keeping that bedroom tidy!
Concerning the below shoot for Reveal magazine – I’m too embarrassed to tell you what this one was about but if you would like to know – click here!
Hope you’ve enjoyed the newsletter, there will be another one along in May.Claire x
