Hello to all. Here is my April ’25 News jumping back to this time last year when I embarked on a big job for Kirklees College. The photoshoots ran over many days and I’m spreading my favourite shots over several newsletters. Kirklees College is located in several locations across West Yorkshire, but I start with the Taylor Hill Animal Centre which provides animal care and land based courses. The animals (and the students) were surprisingly well behaved until we attempted the dog walking shots. I decided, (with the help of family and friends) that I could provide the dog models myself, only for them to utterly embarrass me with their lack of model etiquette and total disregard for ‘nice’ walking!’ The start and end of their modelling career in the same day.

We covered so many courses and departments over the sessions. Here are a few from sports coaching, hospitality and catering, music and the mechanic courses. Hats off to Morgan in the marketing department at Kirklees College who project managed many days of photography. It’s not easy coordinating student volunteers, teachers and locations into workable schedules – but she managed it with flying colours.

I really like what Melo have done with my corporate headshots for their ‘Faces of Melo’ page of their website. Have a look at this link. There is a quirky roll over option that brings in the graphics overlay. Really charming and different. I photographed them on a green screen which allows the designer to change the colour of the final background more easily. Based in Leeds, Melo educate, guide and support financial planning firms.

I loved working with Samson from Bearded Fellows, a creative video and animation agency based in Manchester. Samson invited me to the office for a day to capture imagery to help illustrate who they are and what they do. My brief had two parts, the first was to catch profile portraits of each person in a candid and relaxed style with a positive, creative and engaged feel. The second was to capture the office culture with working style shots. Images of people working, collaborating and engaging with each other in the office space. It’s lovely to work with a creative person like Samson who brought lots of great ideas to the photoshoot.

Lastly, Lorna and Liz from Efficiency North in Sheffield asked me to photograph their lovely staff members. Fresh, clean headshots on a white background. With this style of headshot, I take 10 minutes for each person. This is just enough to make everyone feel comfortable, let their individual personalities shine through and provide them with plenty of options to choose from.
Hope you’ve enjoyed reading the newsletter. All the best.
CroBio are a really interesting innovative company that may well make a massive difference to the world. Their goal is to ‘create an environmentally sustainable solution to alleviate global agricultural drought and help reverse the effects of climate change, through durable carbon drawdown’. I met them at CroBio’s lab in Macclesfield...
I spent a day with a lovely family to create images for MCS Certified, my brief was to capture natural images of the family, in their home, living their lives and to have subtle references to ‘energy’. The star of the show - is such a chilled little guy who takes everything in his stride. We all worked around him, giving him space and down time whenever he needed it - he really is an amazing little person.
I spent half a day with Joe and his team at Soteria Fire Protection in Huddersfield to create branding photography for their website and general promotion and marketing. Soteria provides expert fire safety solutions across the north. We started with headshots against a mid grey background, wearing branded t-shirts of all the staff. Then moved onto more editorial style portraits of Joe
I visited a lovely school in my home town of Huddersfield - Moor End Academy. The pupils were really easy to work with and glad to be involved. I worked with Susan, who organised the schedule and helped me on the day. We were looking to get lots of photography of the students working hard, interacting with each other and enjoying the school environment...
Harper Green School is part of Leverhulme Academy Trust and we worked together to create positive, happy and natural shots of the pupils engaged in lessons and interacting with each other. Occasionally adding in a posed portrait that will work really well alongside a quote or a case study in the prospectus.
