Hello everyone – hope June was treating you well?
We start the June ’24 news with a challenge of a photoshoot for VIP magazine (Pets at Home) in Lancaster. My ‘mission’ was to photograph a family and their three cats. Simple you may think? Ha! The ginger cat was lovely and very chilled. However, the tabby was quite grumpy and the black cat liked to hide. Tanya’s daughter was known in the family as the cat whisperer so I was in good hands. The most difficult shot was getting everybody in one shot. Two adults, two children and three cats. Bags of patience was needed. We even had time out, for about an hour, drinking tea and eating biscuits. This was to give the cats time to chill and settle. They are a lovely family and were thankfully more than happy to give the photoshoot the time and patience it needed.

Sophie at Northern Estate Agencies Group asked me to help build up their image library and content. She has been commissioning me to do several photoshoots across Yorkshire and Lancashire, covering all of their different brands, such as Ryder and Dutton. This was very much a people-based photoshoot. It involved going into the branches to photograph the staff at work but also illustrating the valuations and viewings process and the head office. I can’t help browsing the houses for sale whilst I’m there. I wonder if I can get a discount :-). Sophie is also in charge of redesigning the look of the estate agencies and she does an amazing job – a great eye for design.

I really enjoyed photographing Christine and her garden for WI Life magazine. She’s a lovely lady who clearly loves her gardening. There were so many fun things to discover like the ‘green lady’ and the signs made out of broken tiles, the birdhouses and the vegetable patch – not to mention the donkeys and the big red tractor. Tea and biscuits were in abundance and the rain that was threatening, held off.

Down to the NEC in Birmingham to cover the ‘Installer Show’ for my client MCS. This was a reportage photoshoot where I just keep an eye out for whatever might be happening, capturing the interactions between MCS and the installers and covering the talks and seminars given by MCS. It’s nice doing a reportage photoshoot every now and again as I can have a rest from directing everyone. In case you were wondering, the Installer Show is an event for installers and influencers of heat, water, air and energy technology.

A busy month with pets, people and plenty of tea and biscuits!
