Hello and welcome to my August newsletter, where we jump back to my photoshoots from this time last year.

Prima magazine asked me to photograph Rachel and her gorgeous son to illustrate a sensitive article. My brief was to photograph Rachel by herself, in a thoughtful and reflective way, but for the shots with her son to be much more joyful. When photographing children I try to keep things as calm and relaxed as possible, so we went for a walk stopping every now and again to take some portraits. We tried about four different locations, letting her son do his own thing when needed but it was on the way back when I spotted this lovely field with the tall swaying grasses – the perfect spot.

Here are some examples from an education photoshoot for website and prospectus photography for a high school. Harper Green School is part of Leverhulme Academy Trust and we worked together to create positive, happy and natural shots of the pupils engaged in lessons and interacting with each other. Occasionally adding in a posed portrait that will work really well alongside a quote or a case study in the prospectus.

This was a really fun photoshoot covering Exemplar Health Care’s 50th care home opening at Hillside Court in Leeds. The Lord Mayor of Leeds came, there was an amazing spread, a fabulous sounding choir and just lots and lots of joy from residents and staff alike. It’s always nice to cover a happy event.

Make up artist Kate Gately and I, met Jodie at a country hotel in Lancashire to photograph her for Fabulous magazine. We were both in awe of the way Jodie has overcome a lot of adversity in her life. My brief was to create a sensitive, relaxed but confident portrait to illustrate the article. Jodie was a real pleasure to photograph and was also great company.

Back to Efficiency North in Sheffield to finish off their headshots. When a company tries to capture headshots of all their employees there are usually a few that can’t be around on that day, so a short ‘follow up’ session is usually in order to try and catch everyone. It was really nice to go back – they are a lovely company that makes really positive changes to the world of social housing.

I’m sharing some more of my favourites from my time at Kirklees College in Huddersfield. This time myself and Morgan, from the marketing department, tackled Plumbing, Plastering, Bricklaying, Joinery, Welding and Engineering. It was quite a whirlwind of a day. I loved being in the Joinery Department so much that I signed up for an adult evening course and learnt how to do proper old fashioned joints! (And a bird box I’ve yet to finish…).

Bye for now 🙂

I was invited to spend the day with Mosaic to create some quirky fun headshots that really show the personality of the people and the company. We used 3 different background colours and played around with different expressions and poses and although the office dog took it rather seriously, he does look very handsome :-).

Box Power asked me to photograph their event to celebrate 10 years in business. Box Power is a UK not-for-profit energy consultancy, where all profits, go back into the community and support good causes. It was a lovely evening, with an amazing fire artist, plus the mayor attended – always the sign of a good ‘do’ in my book!
