Morning everyone, here is my October newsletter where we start with some lovely happy images from a little festival I was invited to photograph! Rivi Fest is a day of celebration and sport that Rivington and Blackrod High School in Bolton host every year for their students and my job was to capture the fun with reportage photography. What a great job to have on a day like this. There was so much going on from dancing, bands performing, teachers on space hoppers to the all important sports competitions. The teachers put in so much enthusiasm and effort and the kids just loved it. A great way to end a school year.
I spent half a day with Joe and his team at Soteria Fire Protection in Huddersfield to create branding photography for their website and general promotion and marketing. Soteria provides expert fire safety solutions across the north. We started with headshots against a mid grey background, wearing branded t-shirts of all the staff. Then moved onto more editorial style portraits of Joe that he could use for social media posts and articles in the media. If you are featured in the media frequently, it’s a good idea to book a photoshoot where I can create a good range of editorial style portraits to have at the ready.
Matthew Skelton and Alex Stokes asked me to take some reportage photography of their Leadership masterclass, Team Topologies, in Manchester. I spent a couple of hours photographing the teaching and interaction with an occasional posed portrait and product shot.
I headed over the Pennines to Salford to meet Chris for a short photoshoot with YLEM Energy. I shot both inside and outside headshot options so they had a choice, followed by an informal group shot. YLEM offer a range of energy solutions to business such as solar and energy storage.
One more set of shots from my education photoshoot at Kirklees College. I really enjoyed my time with Morgan and the students – it’s a really great college and the students are very motivated. We spent time in Huddersfield at the Travel and Tourism department and the Media department. It’s always a slightly odd feeling as a photographer to photograph the photographers! Then we visited two of the campuses in Dewsbury where we concentrated on Art and Design and specialist vocational courses for students with SEND. I loved being in the sewing room and went on to sign up for an adult evening course so I now have joinery and sewing under my belt – I’m thinking of brick laying next…

I visited a lovely school in my home town of Huddersfield - Moor End Academy. The pupils were really easy to work with and glad to be involved. I worked with Susan, who organised the schedule and helped me on the day. We were looking to get lots of photography of the students working hard, interacting with each other and enjoying the school environment...
Harper Green School is part of Leverhulme Academy Trust and we worked together to create positive, happy and natural shots of the pupils engaged in lessons and interacting with each other. Occasionally adding in a posed portrait that will work really well alongside a quote or a case study in the prospectus.
I was invited to spend the day with Mosaic to create some quirky fun headshots that really show the personality of the people and the company. We used 3 different background colours and played around with different expressions and poses and although the office dog took it rather seriously, he does look very handsome :-).
Box Power asked me to photograph their event to celebrate 10 years in business. Box Power is a UK not-for-profit energy consultancy, where all profits, go back into the community and support good causes. It was a lovely evening, with an amazing fire artist, plus the mayor attended – always the sign of a good ‘do’ in my book!
