April '24 News

Hello and welcome to my April ’24 news. I hope you are all doing OK.
Firstly, a photoshoot for the NHS to promote wellbeing for their Greater Manchester staff.  I worked with Lisa from Pennine Care to illustrate her designs.  She brought in medical practitioners that were keen to be involved and we set up a studio with a black background in one of the meeting rooms.  I shot a version of the person holding up an iPad and a version of the person smiling and ‘putting on their brave face.’  Later, I comped the two images together to realise Lisa’s concept.  Thanks to Rachel O’Dell for the make up.

This was a cold but fun photoshoot in Abergele, last March. I was there for two days, so booked myself into a static caravan on a wind swept site near the sea. The photography was for In2action, a company that provides recruitment and training to the leisure industry and they needed lots of imagery to illustrate what they do. The training was taking place at a Parkdean resort whilst it was closed to the public and I had a lot of ground to cover photographing the staff doing all sorts of training activities.  The level of enthusiasm and energy the In2action staff brought with them bowled me over. I’ve never seen anything like it and I was really impressed. I always learn something new on every photoshoot and this time it was all about bringing your ‘A’ game with you. I’ve talked about the photography I took for AHR on my previous newsletters and today I thought I’d share the portraits I took for them.  AHR are building consultants and architects. Whilst travelling around their locations in the UK to photograph office lifestyle images we also took portraits of the staff. Here are a few of my favourites.  I tried to get an architectural theme into most of the images to keep them relevant and coherent. We did two versions with each person, looking to the camera and looking off.  I love hunting for little portrait locations and it’s amazing what you can find when you look. This was a big one! Rachael and Rebecca from Lancaster and Morecambe College asked me to help them. They wanted to create fresh photography for their prospectuses, website and marketing material. I was there for three days in a row covering pretty much all of their courses. They have a really broad range – from animal care to welding, from sport to gaming design. I have so many images to share with you that I’m splitting them between this newsletter and the next one. You can also see a college case study I’ve put together. With every area, I tried to get a ‘wide landscape version’ that would be suitable for the website. These are the ones I’m sharing today. This was an exhausting but great job and I have to say thanks to Rachael and Rebecca for their amazing organisational skills – you can imagine what goes into arranging a day like this, never mind three in a row. Also to Teagan who was on work experience with me that week and fitted in so well, taking it all in her stride and becoming a very valued member of the team.
