Let’s eat cake

The November 14 News brings me round to last March and April when I’d just returned from maternity leave. As a chocoholic, I was thrilled that my very first job was to be at Poppy Pickering in Ilkley, a bespoke cake and chocolate shop, for Prima magazine. Not so bad to be back at work!  Dominique makes the most beautiful wedding cakes I have ever seen and her father makes a wonderful array of perfect little chocolates.

Along to a remote part of Wales now to shoot a feature entitled ‘Intrusive thoughts’ for Grazia magazine. Carmen is doing really well now but has suffered from crippling anxiety in the past which completely changed her world and prevented her from following her dreams. I thought she was really brave to do this story and it could really help other people going through similar experiences.

Harry was a superstar model for this Woman’s Own Magazine shoot near Sheffield.  When Harry was really ill as a baby, his parents were offered accommodation close to the hospital ward courtesy of ‘The sick children’s trust.’ Harry’s all better now and Laura and Marcus have gone on to raise over £47,000 for the charity by organising events. A brilliant charity keeping families together and making life a little easier at the most stressful of times.

Helen and her dad have a great relationship so it was easy to fulfil Glamour magazines brief to capture a cosy and relaxed shot of them.  I remember it was a freezing rainy day and I dragged them round the park making them take their coats off and they didn’t complain once!

Buxton in Derbyshire is a stunningly beautiful place so it wasn’t too hard to find the right location for this shot for Woman magazine. Julie and Jane became best friends after losing weight together and now run marathons to raise money for cancer relief.

There was no chance to get bored on this corporate shoot with Muller for Cascade productions. No chance of going hungry either with the free yoghurt and chocolate mousse – yum 😉 We had a great day doing shots on a white colorama, then portraits in situ round the offices and the factory. (those pesky blue hats made an appearance again – I haven’t seen anyone wear one well yet..)

Sylvia Lancaster is a truly inspiring woman that I photographed for S Magazine. After the violent murder of her daughter Sophie in 2007 she has gone on to establish the ‘Sophie Lancaster Foundation‘ which aims to ‘challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures’, through education. Sylvia has somehow found the strength to make the world a better place and create a legacy for her daughter.

That’s all for now, I shall get on with my Christmas shoots (tree up, tree down, up, down, up…). Speak soon – Claire x
